ISS Astronauts Replace Coolant

Two astronauts managed to replace the cooling installation at the ISS space station was damaged after mid-December. Permanent damage to the refrigerator for a tool that can be fatal.
At the end of the year , an astronaut who oversee the International Space Station ( ISS ) caught a Christmas gift , the cooling installation . For the second time in the history of the United States Space Agency ( NASA ) , the astronauts should be diving fixes outside the station on Christmas Eve .

" Merry Christmas . Thank you , " said an operator Space Control Center .
In the action that took place during the seven- hour , two NASA astronauts , Mike Hopkins and Rick Mastriacchio installing coolant pump station on the body . Both are beyond 60 minutes longer than the planned .
Immediately after successfully installed , astronauts and Control Center in Earth Tuesday ( 24/12 ) night to test the installation . If everything works as planned , the new NASA will turn on the pump slowly .
NASA said the trial results show the tools of the fridge it serves " healthy " . Previous ISS cooling pump was damaged and had to be dismantled by the two astronauts on Saturday ( 21/12 ) .
Fatal Without Cooling
Mastracchios had experienced problems with its space suit after completing the demolition of the cooling pump . After getting new clothes , and Hopkins Maastracchios scheduled finish installation of the pump . Both have to put five and four electrical connections that pump the cooling water pipe work optimally .
ISS cooling system repairs including the highest priority to keep the temperature in the room in the station . When the coolant pump was damaged last December 11 , the astronauts were forced to put out the energy in the Soviet Union modules . Additionally modules Japan and Europe also experienced a system outage be only half.
Actually the space station still has a second cooling installation work normally . But the installation is not sufficient to supply all parts of the station. The cooling system is mainly needed to maintain the temperature of the computer equipment and easy to heat . In serious cases , such electronic devices could cause spark fatal fire .
Savings on ISS
Last November the ISS celebrates 15th anniversary . During this time the astronauts more often face minor damage . Most of the modules are installed on the ISS came from the United States and Russia . Since 2008 European laboratories participated by putting up " Columbus " . In addition , Japan and Canada also contributed module to the station .
Recently, ESA and other space agencies suggested that only stay on the ISS astronauts to conduct research and then come back to earth . The idea was conceived to reduce operational costs continue to swell .
However, the ISS Program Director America , Michael Suffredini , refused on the pretext of the absence of the astronauts could create new problems . According to a lot of damage to the space station that could only be overcome by astronauts . Suffredini opinion proved correct , at the latest after the ISS cooling system should be improved .
