The Global Atheist Threatened Discrimination

A study reported that in 13 countries, all Muslim countries, people who openly supports atheism and rejecting the official state religion, namely Islam, threatened with execution according to law.

Even outside of Muslim countries, who looked the most democratic government in the western world also discriminate against citizens who do not believe most severe and could imprison them on charges of blasphemy or defamation of religion, further stated that the study called Freethought Report 2013.

The report was published by the International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU), a global body which brings together atheists, agnostics and other religious skepticism group, to mark UN Human Rights Day which falls on Tuesday (10.12.13).

"This report shows that the majority of the world countries fail to respect the rights of atheists and freethinkers though they had signed a UN agreement to treat every citizen equally," said IHEU President Sonja Eggerickx.

Based on the data set

The study covers 192 UN member states and involves among lawyers and human rights experts who have studied the law books , court records and media reports to describe the global situation .
The first survey of 60 countries last year saw only 7 countries that impose a death sentence , often by beheading in front of the public , in return for the defamation of religion , or apostasy - contradict religious belief or transfer are also covered under the UN agreement .
But this year's report shows six countries, to cover the whole list Afghanistan , Iran , Malaysia , Maldives , Mauritania , Nigeria , Pakistan , Qatar , Saudi Arabia , Somalia , Sudan , United Arab Emirates and Yemen .
In many parts of the world , the report says, " there are laws that deny the rights of atheists to exist , take their citizenship , prohibits their right to marry , to block access to education, hampering their work for the government ... "
Criticizing religion or even academic studies on the origin of religion is often considered an act of criminality and punishment can be rewarded commensurate with religious defamation , the report added .

No exception to EU countries

IHEU, whose members live in over 50 countries and has supporters in other countries which prohibit the presence of the organization, raising serious or systematic discrimination against atheists in the 27 EU countries.

The situation was considered serious in Austria, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Malta and Poland which have laws with the threat of three years in prison on charges of insulting religion or religious affiliation.

In the earlier states and other EU countries, except the Netherlands and Belgium called the report as 'free and fair', there is systemic discrimination in favor of religious communities and faiths.
