Mystery of the Virgin Birth in the U.S.

One in every 200 U.S. young woman said she got pregnant while still a virgin. Thus the results of a study.

U.S. researchers who conducted long-term research on reproductive health among young people in the United States proclaim that amount, startling many people. Of the 7,870 women who participated in the study which is run anonymously, 45 people, or about 0.5% of their stated previously pregnant without having sexual intercourse.

None of those states have used in vitro to get pregnant. Explains the results of a study published in the journal British Medical Journal (BMJ). The author adds, of 45 people, some have a miscarriage or lost her baby because of other reasons.

Based on Health Studies

The study was based on a study called the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health , which was held from 1995 to 2009 . The study included people from adolescence to adulthood . The study was considered to be trustworthy and represent all citizens of the U.S. , from all social and ethnic circles . The young women who join the study provides information on the history of sex they do , also their knowledge about pregnancy and birth control methods .
For more than 14 years , they answer the questionnaire by filling in answers on a computer , and not through the question-and- answer with the clerk . But they are always accompanied by officers if need help . Age and their religious beliefs are also recorded . Their parents are asked to notify , the extent to which they have been talking about sex and birth control with their children . Their principal also asked to give evidence , the subject of sex is in the curriculum .
Nearly a third of those who claim to get pregnant while still a virgin states have given an oath to not have sex before marriage . This oath is mainly supported conservative Christian circles . Of those who became pregnant and claimed to have had sexual intercourse , 15 % had the same oath . And of those who are still virgin and never pregnant , 21 % said it had given oath .
Women who claimed to be a mother without sexual intercourse also average two years younger , of which states have sexual intercourse , which is the average age of approximately 21 years .

Results Not Accurate?

The study's lead author , Amy Herring , who became a professor of biostatistics at the University of North Carolina , said the volunteers are not asked the question , "Are you pregnant when you were a girl ? " The conclusion was drawn from a series of questions about the history of pregnancy and their sexual relationship . Their results give rise to questions about sexual education and awareness , but also about the difficulty in obtaining accurate data about a person 's sex life . Amy Herring explains .
" Although we believe that the question is quite clear , there is still a possibility , that some women misunderstood or wrongly interpreted it . Example, they write the wrong year , or for some reason they are not willing to admit that they had sexual intercourse , " said Herring .
He added that , although the researchers are already using the technology in an effort to encourage honesty of respondents , they still find an answer that is not realistic . " A few weeks ago , we even re- examine whether this phenomenon is only seen in women . , But it turns out we also found a number of fathers who claim to have never entered into a sexual relationship . And it's even harder to understand , " said Herring .
